Techtextil 2026, held from 21–24 April in Frankfurt am Main, is the leading international trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens. The event brings together global stakeholders from industry, research, and development across the entire textile value chain, covering areas such as high-performance materials, smart textiles, sustainable solutions, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
With approximately 1,700 exhibitors from more than 50 countries and over 36,000 visitors from more than 100 nations, the event represents one of the most important global platforms for innovation, networking, and business development in the textile sector.
During the event, the Smart Textiles Platform Austria engaged in extensive exchange with international industry representatives, research institutions, and technology providers. The focus was on identifying emerging trends and technological developments, particularly in areas such as smart and functional textiles, high-performance fibers, sustainable and bio-based materials, and integration of digital and automated manufacturing processes.
In addition, targeted discussions were held with potential partners to explore collaboration opportunities and to assess application fields relevant to smart textiles, including protective clothing, mobility, medical textiles, and wearable systems. The co-location with Texprocess enabled a comprehensive view of the full value chain, from material innovation to scalable industrial processing, supporting a holistic understanding of current challenges and opportunities within the sector.
The event also highlighted key industry challenges, including the need to translate innovative concepts into scalable, market-ready solutions, as well as increasing demands related to sustainability, regulatory requirements, and supply chain resilience.
Participation in Techtextil 2026 directly supports the objectives of the ATIMA project by strengthening international networking between research, industry, and application stakeholders, and by facilitating knowledge and technology transfer in the field of advanced materials and smart textiles. Furthermore, the insights gained contribute to the identification of emerging trends and innovation potentials, supporting the initiation of future collaborative R&D activities. The presence at a leading global trade fair also enhances the visibility of Austrian competencies within the international smart textiles ecosystem and reinforces the role of the Smart Textiles Platform Austria as an active innovation and networking hub within ATIMA.
