The October 2026 edition of SPIRIT of Styria explores in the article “Innovation mit Verantwortung”, the potential of Advanced Materials (AdMa) through three innovative examples from Styria: intelligent wound care, nanoparticle-based cancer treatment and smart textiles that monitor physiological data.

The article includes an interview with Lejla Pock, CEO of Human.technology Styria (HTS), member of the BioNanoNet association, who discusses the latest developments in Advanced Materials, the role of digitalisation and artificial intelligence, and the importance of ensuring that new materials are safe, sustainable and fit for purpose.

BNN is highlighted as a key player in strengthening Styria’s AdMa ecosystem. By connecting science, industry and public institutions, BNN supports collaboration and promotes the integration of safety and sustainability into material development from the outset. Through the national project ATIMA, BNN also fosters networking between stakeholders across Austria.

The article underlines how interdisciplinary collaboration can turn scientific advances into responsible innovations that benefit society and strengthen industrial competitiveness.
