On 13 April 2026, representatives of BNN participated in the IAM4Sweden & OpenTech Talks event in Lund, Sweden, which focused on the development of the Skåne microelectronics ecosystem and its future role within Europe’s semiconductor landscape.
The seminar brought together experts from industry, startups, and regional development organisations to discuss innovation, competitiveness, and collaboration across the semiconductor value chain. Contributions from leading stakeholders highlighted the region’s strengths in microelectronics, the challenges and opportunities for emerging semiconductor companies, and the importance of regional cooperation in strengthening Europe’s technological sovereignty. Some participants relevant to be highlighted were Ericsson (four decades of radio hardware research in Lund), BeammWave / AlixLabs (building semiconductor startups in Skåne), and the Region Skåne (strengthening Europe’s semiconductor ecosystem through regional collaboration).
For ATIMA and InnoMatSyn, the event was particularly relevant due to the strong connections between microelectronics, semiconductor technologies, and circular advanced materials. The discussions provided valuable insights into current developments and future needs within the sector, offering perspectives that are closely aligned with ATIMA’s focus on advanced materials innovation and sustainability.
In addition to the seminar programme, the event facilitated networking and matchmaking activities among European regional delegations, companies, and researchers. These exchanges created opportunities to establish new contacts, explore potential collaborations, and strengthen connections between Austrian and European stakeholders.
By engaging with key actors from the microelectronics and advanced materials communities, ATIMA contributed to knowledge exchange and international networking while increasing the visibility of Austrian expertise within the broader European innovation ecosystem.
